Action against JNU, CPWD, DTC, NCERT for allowing mosquito-breeding

Educational institutes like JNU, NCERT and various depots of DTC as well as CPWD and BSES office sites are among the places against which the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has taken prosecution action for finding mosquito-breeding at their premises.

“We have taken prosecution action against the following places last week after finding mosquito-breeding there during inspections  NCERT, JNU hostels, NSIT at Dwarka, DTC depots at Barapullah, Sewa Nagar, Sector 1 & 8 Dwarka and cluster bus depot on the Ring Road, construction sites of Metro stations at Sector-1 Dwarka and Janak Puri, BSES Office-National Park at Lajpat Nagar, CPWD office-INA,” Medical Health Officer, SDMC, N K Yadav said .

Action has also been taken against Kendriya Vidyalaya and <g data-gr-id="31">Sarvodya</g> Vidyalaya at INA Colony, CISF camp at Mahipalpur, and Centre for Cultural Resource and Training Centre at Sector 7, Dwarka, among other places, he said.

At least 40 cases of dengue have been reported till July 25 this year, the highest number for the period in the last five years, according to a Municipal report on the vector-borne disease released on Monday.

23 of them have been reported in the month of July only with 11 cases having come up over the last week. During this period, over 69,496 households have been found positive during a check for mosquito breeding in various areas and, 64,201 legal notices have been issued — NDMC (17,936), SDMC (27,409) and EDMC (18,856). SDMC has also issued 1,734 challans to various violators.

In Delhi, out of the total 40 cases, the maximum number of them was reported from North Delhi, at 15, while East Delhi recorded the lowest number with eight cases.

Twelve cases were recorded in South Delhi during the period, the report by the SDMC said. Yadav added that Central Cross Checking Organisation of NVBDCP (Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme), Government of India has also reported high breeding indices at Pul Prahladpur, Aya Nagar, Bhatti Mines, <g data-gr-id="36">Bindapur</g> DDA flats, Sanjay Gandhi Camp-RK Puram, <g data-gr-id="37">Sitapuri</g>, Mahipalpur Village, Prem Nagar areas under the jurisdiction of SDMC. Commissioner, SDMC, Puneet K Goel on Tuesday convened a meeting of all stakeholders of the civic body to review the status of preparedness for prevention and control of vector-borne diseases in Delhi.
