Acid bulb hurled at trader, misses target

Miscreants hurled an acid bulb towards a trader at Murshidabad’s Jangipur. The acid bulb fortunately missed the target and hit a windowpane and the trader who was standing there had a close shave.

Police are yet to get any headway about who committed the crime. However, an investigation has been initiated. Police said the trader, who requested the police to not reveal his identity, lives in Jangipur.

On Thursday evening, the trader was standing close to the window when he suddenly saw a miscreant come near the building riding a cycle and then throw an acid bulb at him.

He managed to save himself and started to shout. The veiled miscreant had decamped by the time the locals rushed in.

Local residents assured him about his safety and security and started patrolling the area at night.
But the family members of the trader have gone out of the house and gone to other places.
It is not too long ago that three incidents of acid attacks had taken place in the state. Those three incidents claimed the lives of two women while critically injuring another.

The women, one in Hooghly’s Tarakeswar and another in Nadia’s Tehatta succumbed to their injuries, while an acid victim was battling for her life in Burdwan’s Kalna.

Later she was saved by the doctors. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India has already instructed the state governments to take adequate measures against acid attacks.

In this case of Murshidabad, the police have started investigation. “We are suspecting that some business rivals may have tried to take revenge on that man. The women are attacked by the acid bulb. The male acid victims were not very common in the district,” said a police officer.

However, soon after the incident, the district police have raided main area and seized the acid bottles from various places.
