Accident in Debra-Bura crossing injures 11

An onions sack loaded pick up van hit a private car on National Highway 6 at Debra Bura crossing, causing injuries to 11 people on Saturday morning.

The injured were rushed to the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. Two among the 11 were admitted in the hospital in a critical condition.

Eye witnesses said that a sack of onions had fallen on the road. The driver of the lorry tried to retrieve the sack. The private car which was approaching from the front got hit by the lorry.

The driver of the lorry and his aide soon escaped the spot. The truck was captured by the local residents. Initially the people started to pelt stones at the police who tried to calm the situation down. “Rash driving claims many lives in accidents. It is a regular affair here. We expect some action by the traffic police,” said a local resident.

Soon after the incident, the injured were taken to the hospital as the doctors there took almost no time to start treatment.

“We are trying to educate the errant drivers. The state government has ‘Safe drive Save lives’ motto – which we are implementing for our campaign,” said a police officer.
