ACB raids Waqf Board office over ‘recruitment scam’

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi government on Thursday raided Delhi Waqf Board office here in connection with alleged recruitment scam against its chief and AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan.

“A team is currently at the Delhi Waqf Board office and our men are going through related documents and files on a complaint of recruitment irregularities against the Board chairman Amanatullah Khan,” said a senior ACB official.

The team reached the office of Waqf Board at Daryaganj at around 2.30 pm.

The ACB had last week launched a “preliminary inquiry” into “recruitment scam” in the Board.
The Board chairman Khan had then termed the move “interference” in working of the body by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.

The ACB had sent a letter to the Waqf Board seeking details including recruitment in 2016, on a complaint by Mohammad Mustafa. Khan claimed recruitments were conducted with due legal process and alleged Jung was creating “hindrance” in working of the body.

“We have followed all the due legal procedures in recruitment and not only ACB, even a CBI inquiry cannot find any irregularity in it. The LG is knowingly creating hurdles in working of Waqf Board,” Khan had said.

Delhi Waqf Board has made recruitment on several posts since Khan became chairman of the body in March.
