Absconding chit fund director held

A chit fund director who had been absconding for the last three years was arrested by the police.

Police said that accused had gone missing after duping crores of rupees from many investors. Burdwan police have arrested the accused, Sanjay Kumar Nayek from Ranigung on Saturday night. Another person was arrested in this connection. Several cases of cheating have been pending against the accused in various police stations. After the news of his arrest had spread, hundreds of investors gathered outside a local police station shouting slogans against the accused.

Police said that the accused Nayek, director of Swarnabhumi Chit fund and his associate Prakash Majhi had collected money from various investors in Burdwan but never returned the money. When the investors demanded the money back, both the accused had suddenly disappeared. Police said that few crores of rupees were duped by the accused. 

Several complaints were lodged in the police stations against the accused on the basis of which the police started an investigation. Despite a probe being started, the police failed to arrest the accused. On Saturday, the investors came to know about the whereabouts of the accused and informed the matter to the police. They told the police that the accused has been staying at Raniganj. A joint raid conducted by the Raniganj and Gangajal Ghati police arrested both the accused from a house. 

People from Raniganj put up demonstration against both the accused. People were carrying the documents and gheraoed the accused while they were being taken to the police station. A huge contingent of police dispersed the mob and took the accused to the nearby police station. They demanded the money back. Police are interrogating both the accused in this connection and trying to examine where the huge amount of money had gone.
