Abandoned bag triggers bomb scare in Sector V

An abandoned bag triggered a bomb scare at Salt Lake on Thursday afternoon.

The bomb scare spread panic among the local people after a black bag was spotted in front of a Central government office in Sector V. After being informed, police and bomb squads rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The entire area was evacuated.

Sniffer dogs were also pressed into action to detect if there were any explosives inside the bag. The incidents had, however, affected the normal traffic movement in the area.

Some local hawkers first spotted the bag lying on the pavement just opposite to a Centre-owned office under Electronic Complex police station. The local people and office goers started fleeing from the area. The local people then informed the matter to the local police station.

As soon as the police arrived in the spot, an eyewitness told them that a bag was dumped there by some people who were travelling in a white car. This had aroused the suspicion of the common people who thought that the bag must have been containing some explosive materials.

A large police force and a bomb disposal squad carried out the search for a while but found nothing suspicious inside the bag. Police suspect that some people might have done this to spread panic in the area.

Police have started a detailed probe into the incident and are searching for the car that had reportedly dropped the bag in the area.

The incident created much furore in the area as many offices are situated there. Police are interrogating the local people in this connection and conducting a search for the vehicle.
