AAP targets Jaitley over corruption in DDCA

Kejriwal said Jaitley’s assertion that AAP’s allegations against him are “unsubstantiated and non-specific” could not be treated as “gospel truth” as the charges against him were “very, very serious”.

“Can Jaitleyji’s denial in press be taken as gospel truth? Very serious allegations against him. Why is he running away from investigations? If Jaitley ji were let off without investigations on basis of his press denial, then should all coal and 2G accused also be similarly let off?” Kejriwal asked in a series of tweets. “Amounts involved are huge. He should either resign or be removed to enable independent probe,” Kejriwal demanded.

Earlier at a press conference, AAP alleged huge financial bunglings in DDCA during Jaitley’s 13 year-old tenure as its chief, saying large amounts were siphoned off through fake companies besides other irregularities including team selection. The AAP, quoting from reports of Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), DDCA’s internal probe committee and a Delhi government-appointed inquiry panel, accused Jaitley of giving “direct and indirect” consent to “massive corruption” in the cricket body.

“The bunglings had happened under direct or indirect consent of Arun Jaitley during his tenure as DDCA chief. Prime Minister Narendra Modi must ask Jaitley to resign to ensure fair probe as some of the competent agencies to investigate are under Finance Ministry,” said AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha, flanked by a number of other leaders.

“Jaitley had been running the DDCA like “an elite club”, appointing his favourites. Fact Finding Committee examined the corruption at DDCA. Rs 1 crore 55 lakh loan given by DDCA to three companies. When the panel inquired, the chairman and general secretary were unable to give answers. The report clearly says prima facie it seems to be a criminal breach of trust”, added Chadha.

“I will tell you about the construction scam at DDCA. Under Finance Minister’s tenure, a budget of Rs 24 crore was approved to construct DDCA stadium, whereas Rs 114 crore were spent. Jaitley wrote to Kirti Azad: “We consciously got our stadium constructed by EPIL, a PSU company.” EPIL was paid only Rs 57 crore, where did the remaining Rs 57 crore go,” questioned Chadha.

“There have been cases of proxy billing and proxy cases. Cases were filed so that money can be siphoned off the DDCA. DDCA treasurer Narendra Batra has been there for so many years. We want Jaitley to reveal his association with him,” he added. “The country has millions of cricket fans. Whenever any person has tried to expose the scam, the Centre has opposed it. Jaitley has shielded the DDCA for over 15 years. There’s corruption worth several hundred crores that has taken place under the very nose of the Finance Minister,” said AAP leader Kumar Vishwas.
