AAP supporters protest against Delhi Police

The AAP Youth Wing raised slogans against the police for the deteriorated law and order situation and demanded their resignation. The workers carried banners and placards with messages “ACP Patel Nagar aur SHO Anand Parbat istifa do” (ACP Patel Nagar and SHO Anand Parbat resign).

The protests were led by Ankush Narang, AAP Youth Wing president. Some of the AAP workers were injured when the police used extra force to disperse the crowd. Meenakshi was allegedly stabbed to death on Thursday by two brothers living in her neighbourhood, Anand Parbat, for fighting back at their verbal abuse at her.

“The SHO of Anand Parbat police station and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Patel Nagar should resign immediately. There should be an independent inquiry into the lapses and the guilty officials who turned away the parents of the deceased girl should be punished,” said Narang, head of the AAP Youth Wing. “The protesters were lathi-charged by the police for no reason. Several people were injured and some of them have been taken to custody. We deplore the high handedness of the police,” he added. AAP alleged laxity on the part of Delhi Police in investigating the murder case even as it stepped up its demand to hand over the control of the law enforcing agency to the state government.

AAP Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey accused the police of naming just one accused in its report, even when “three persons including the mother of those who stabbed the girl were involved.”
“The FIR has name of just one accused. Why have the police not named the second accused in the case and their mother? Is the police hiding something? Have they taken bribe in the case?” said Pandey, while addressing a press conference.
