AAP slams BJP for flouting NGT orders and organising function at illegal hall

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday strongly condemned the violation of the orders given by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), by the Delhi BJP president when he held a family function at an illegal banquet hall in South Delhi, despite objections by local residents and Residents Welfare Associations.

“The MLAs representing various constituencies of South Delhi (Saurabh Bhardwaj, Somnath Bharti and Naresh Yadav) have received complaints from residents about a family function which was organised by the BJP Delhi president Satish Upadhyay on November 21 at Jhankar Banquets and
Tower Restaurant, that had no legal clearance to host the event. It is shocking that the leaders of the ruling party at the Centre, with active connivance of the DDA and Delhi Police, threw all norms out the window,” said AAP in a statement.

“It has been brought to light that the NGT in its order on July 10 had restrained Jhankar Banquets from holding marriages/parties till further orders. This order was served by the Vice Chairman DDA, Chief Engineer South — DDA, Director Horticulture — DDA — South, Chief Fire Officer — Delhi Fire Services and Municipal Commissioner, SDMC. Till date, there has been no fire clearances in favour of Jhankar Banquets or the Tower Restaurant,” it said.

As per the website of the Delhi Fire Services, both the Tower Restaurant & Jhankar Banquets do not have fire clearances. As per Delhi Police Licensing, no application seeking licence has been filed by Tower Restaurant or Jhankar Banquets.

“This party was attended by the who’s who of political leaders from both the BJP and the Congress. This caused a huge traffic jam and also created massive noise pollution.

The security guards deployed by Jhankar did not allow the residents to take pictures, fearing that those pictures could be used as evidence before the NGT,” said AAP.
