AAP questions failure of Goa minor girl’s rape case

Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar who acted ‘swiftly’ against former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal should have been equally quick acting against those who raped a seven-year-old minor girl in Vasco town in 2012, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate said here on Sunday.

‘I demand that equally swift steps be taken in many other pending cases of such nature, including the rape of the seven-year-old in a Vasco school in January 2013, in which the lack of progress after more than a year raises many questions," AAP South Goa Candidate Swati Kerkar said.

A girl was raped inside a school toilet and the Goa state crime branch had failed to nab the accused.
Trying to clear the air after her statement that was criticised on social media, Kerkar said that the Tejpal issue was mentioned to draw attention to conflicting statements by the Goa CM about the efficiency of the Goa police.

‘In the case of Tarun Tejpal, the CM rightly exhorted the Goa police to act swiftly and fearlessly, but in the case of illegal mining, he has expressed doubts about his own police force, even though in both cases, the accused are high profile and powerful,’ she said.
