AAP leader files plaint against Parrikar, Rao

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey on Friday filed a complaint against Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader GVL Narsimha Rao at the Indraprastha police station for allegedly defaming and politicising the Army and committing an act of sedition against the country.

The development comes after AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Thursday lashed out at Rao and Parrikar and threatened to register a police complaint against them.

In his complaint, Pandey has stated that the “Hanuman” parallel drawn by Parikkar was an insult to the Army and undignified on the part of the country’s Defence Minister. Pandey further said that the statement was a cheap political stunt by the BJP and could have been totally avoided in the interest of the nation and self-confidence of the Armed Forces.

“That the statement is absolutely politically motivated and made with the purpose to glorify the image of the political organisation that the Defence Minister belongs to – the BJP, to glorify the image of himself, and of PM of our country by denigrating image of Indian armed forces which is peer and esteemed organisation(sic),” the complaint read.

Similar allegations were made against Rao for his comment on the surgical strikes.

So far no case has been registered against the BJP leaders. “We have received the complaint and are going through the contents of the letter. We will take appropriate action in accordance with the law,” said a senior police official.
