AAP lawmaker booked for roughing up NDMC worker

According to the police, the incident was reported on Tuesday night when a team of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) officials were doing a routine check in Tughlaq Road area and they had reportedly stopped an e-rickshaw driver to check his documents. In the meantime, Singh and his associates happened to pass by and they stopped their vehicle to check the matter.

Singh’s intervention into the matter led to an argument between the MLA and NDMC officials. When the argument turned worse, Singh and his associates allegedly ended up thrashing an NDMC sanitation worker who was accompanying the officials, and left from the scene. Surinder Singh himself is a member of NDMC.

“Ram Jeevan Meena, Sanitary Inspector as NDMC, had complained to the police alleging that a <g data-gr-id="23">beldar</g>, identified as Mukesh was beaten and manhandled by Surinder Singh, when the team had apprehended an e-rickshaw driver to check his documents. An FIR was registered based on the complaint filed at Tughlaq Road Police Station and the sanitation worker was taken to a hospital for first aid,” said a senior police official.

He further informed that Singh and his associates have been booked under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 367/511 (Attempt to abduct a person in order to subject person to grievous hurt, slavery, etc) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) of IPC and Section 3(10) of the SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act.

However, the police could not question Singh till Wednesday evening as he was not available and they had no idea about his whereabouts, the senior official added. Despite repeated attempts, Singh was not available for comments.
