AAP demands resignation of police chief Bassi

The Aam Aadmi party (AAP) on Saturday launched an attack on the Delhi Police over the rape of a 23-year-old by an Assistant Sub-Inspector, prompting a demand for the resignation of Commissioner BS Bassi.

Slamming the police, party leader Ashish Khetan said the incident reflected the priorities of the Delhi Police, which was “indulging” in arresting AAP leaders. “This is a serious issue and the law and order <g data-gr-id="28">is</g> crumbling in Delhi. Crime graph has increased by 100 <g data-gr-id="30">per cent</g> and incidents of rape are increasing. If a policeman is himself involved in rape then it reflects the priority of the police,” he said.

<g data-gr-id="20">Khetan</g> added: “On one hand, they are indulging in arresting AAP men <g data-gr-id="23">and on the other hand</g> their men are involved in heinous crimes. I think Bassi <g data-gr-id="21">sahab</g> should resign.”

Incidentally, two AAP MLAs were arrested in last one month in forgery cases. The tussle between AAP and Delhi Police is not new. In his first term as CM Arvind Kejriwal staged a dharna, demanding action against police officers in three different cases, including the Khirki extension case. The two also crossed swords after the death of <g data-gr-id="26">farmer</g> Gajender Singh Chouhan.
