AAP demands NDMC vice-chairman’s arrest

A delegation of AAP Delhi unit leaders met Police Commissioner B S Bassi on Monday, demanding <g data-gr-id="29">arrest</g> of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) vice-chairman Karan Singh Tanwar for allegedly assaulting a senior civic body official.

Alleging that this is not the first time Tanwar facing charges of assault on NDMC personnel, the AAP delegation demanded that strict action be initiated against him and he <g data-gr-id="34">be</g> removed from the post of vice-chairman.

“Tanwar has been accused of illegally confining the Director (Projects and Enforcement) NDMC, Neeraj Bharti in his office and having threatened him by instigating his supporters to beat him up.

“The said officer (Bharti) has already filed a police complaint. This is not the first incident involving Tanwar. He is a serial offender, this only adds to the list of his offences,” the AAP delegation, led by Delhi unit secretary Dilip Pandey, said in a letter to Bassi.

AAP claimed that last year, a lady doctor working as Chief Medical Officer with NDMC had lodged a complaint against Tanwar, accusing him of misbehaving with her.

“Taking such cases lightly raises questions on the impartiality and the functional credibility of Delhi Police,” the letter added.

AAP has been at loggerheads with Tanwar for quite <g data-gr-id="33">sometime</g> now. In <g data-gr-id="32">2015</g> Assembly polls, AAP’s Surinder Singh had defeated Tanwar from Delhi Cantonment seat. The AAP government was also upset with the Centre for appointing Tanwar as vice-chairman of NMDC without consulting the Chief Minister. Later, Tanwar filed an alleged fake degree case in a local court against Surinder Singh.
