AAP corners Modi govt over Land Bill

The announcement made by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi that his government will not re-promulgate the controversial Land Acquisition Ordinance any further is an acceptance of BJP-led NDA regime’s anti-people and anti-farmer moves.” the AAP said in a statement on Sunday.

“The role of the BJP in Land Acquisition Bill is both interesting and worrying. While in the opposition, it teamed up with the UPA to pass the Bill in 2013 while after coming to power its further intention was to tweak the bill in order to benefit its corporate friends. After three unsuccessful tries to thrust the bill on the people, it finally accepted its mistake,” the AAP added.

The Aam Aadmi Party also demanded that Modi government should desist from any move to amend the Land rule through executive orders adding that any change if required should be made only after proper deliberation in Parliament and by taking into confidence the different <g data-gr-id="21">stake holders</g>.

“The government is trying to unleash a <g data-gr-id="22">farce</g> on the country by calling these executive orders as farmer friendly. What is beneficial for the farmers can be best judged only if it is scrutinized properly. After trying the path of the back door legislation of ordinance, the government is now relying on the bureaucratic tyranny of executive orders to inculcate its pro-corporate intentions to rob land from the farmers.” said the AAP.

Also adding that mere rechristening of a ministry and superficially talking about farmer’s welfare do not result in the real welfare of the tillers and farmers of the country, the AAP urged the government to set its priorities straight saying that it would continue to push for pro-people policies and challenge the Modi government with all its might if it goes against the welfare of the people and farmers in particular.
