AAP, BJP spar over Upadhyay ‘nexus’ with discoms

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday alleged a nexus between Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, his colleague Ashish Sood and power distributor BSES, a subsidiary of Reliance group. Kejriwal also alleged that the new government in the Centre was ‘conspiring’ to abort his efforts to ensure a CAG audit of power Discoms in Delhi.

“Upadhyay owns six companies of which one- NCNL Info Media Ltd, takes contracts of BSES to purchase, install and monitor electricity meters, which were alleged to be running fast by power consumers in Delhi,” said Kejriwal releasing some related documents. He claimed that these documents were provided to him by a BJP insider. He also alleged the involvement of Delhi BJP general secretary Ashish Sood in the ‘nexus’.

“One of the companies has two PAN numbers which is illegal as per law,”added Kejriwal. “Why was such a person appointed the president of Delhi BJP? It’s a clear case of conflict of interest,” said Kejriwal. He further claimed that the said company was conferred the best vendor award by Reliance Energy, number one in BSES’s metering work and till date has installed and replaced meters in Delhi.

Countering the charges, Upadhyay and Sood immediately addressed the media and denied all allegations levelled by Kejriwal saying, “If Kejriwal proves his allegation by tomorrow, I will quit politics or else he should quit politics.”
