A remarkable portrayal of art

Art represents not just an outward appearance but an inward significance, which is a reflection of thought processes.

The whole practice of creating and appreciating art intends to bridge the gap between two separate worlds of intellectuals and layman. Such was an exhibition by the students of Delhi Collage of Art (DCA), who showcased their collection of contemporary art, as well as an interactive street art, so that a layman can connect with it and appreciate it.

The 14th annual art exhibition of DCA, conceptualised by senior artist, Ashwani K Prithviwasi, founder and principal of the college, also saw the presence of highly recognised and renowned artists of all times. Art is not seen but felt and the collection was diverse, depicting different emotions and aspects beautifully. The amount of hard work and determination put by the students on each art work, made the whole experience  delightful. It is an initiative by the students to bring every form of art together.

They have used  water colors, oil pastel, charcoal, acrylic and different types of surfaces and installations.Ashwani K Prithviwasi said: “The sole purpose of our college or for that matter any college is to reconcile the mindset of a common man with that of an intellectual.

We believe that a contemporary, modern artist should bend a little and dilute an artwork for a layman to connect.”The exhibition is a distinctive mixture of various themes, reflecting the different artists’ background and artistic heritage. Few of the paintings were a treat to the eyes and some raised curiosity.

One amongst them was a group artwork that used different shades of colors and forms— it created such an effect that it could create curiosity amongst the lowest denominator. Prithviwasi talks about one of the group work saying, “This is the material for the people who are interested in interacting with the paintings. The piece was made, keeping in mind the taste of this generation and to add an ‘awe’ factor with moving train breaking the barriers of the frame.”

He further adds that it is also to boost the confidence of the students and make them understand the importance of team work. The exhibition also broke the parameters of 2 dimensional, 3 dimensional or a 4 dimensional painting by displaying art in 360 degree angle. Students also seemed equally enthusiastic and excited about their exhibition.

One of the student, Manshi said: “Different forms of art we learn here are exceptional and the amount of hard work it requires, continues to inspire us.”Paintings form a unique meaning for everyone and in this exhibition, with the plethora of beauty, one may not fail but agree to it.
