A poetic evening
A poetry evening, titled Musings and Melodies, with musical interludes was organised in the Capital by Hungarian Information and Cultural Centre (HICC), New Delhi, Universal Poetry, and Poetry Across Cultures, and India International Centre on 11 September.
The evening was chaired by Rita Malhotra, Vice-Principal of Kamla Nehru College, University of Delhi and President of Poetry Across Cultures, and Sameer Kakkar, the well known bilingual poet and the founder of Universal Poetry. The session began with the welcome address by Tibor Kovács, Director of Hungarian Information and Cultural Centre. Cheif Guest Attila Viezer, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Hungary to India recited a Hungarian poem to grace the ocassion.
Some of the poems by Miklós Radnóti were recited in the memory of Hungarian victims of the Holocaust in 1944. The evening covered the themes of nationalism, nature, and love. Poets and individuals from different folks of life were reading-out poems in Hungarian, English, and Hindi. This was a common platform for the exchange and awareness of cross-cultural poetic and musical genres.
Musical interludes of solo performances, intrumental music, vocal, piano and guitar accompaniments, interspersing the session, made the poetry evening more vibrant and appealing.
