A day after, cops rule out robbery behind murder of 63-year-old woman in Mansarovar Park area

A day after a 63-year-old elderly woman was found strangled to death at her house in the Mansoravar Park area in North-east Delhi, police officials, privy to the investigation said in the preliminary investigation, that they have completely ruled out robbery angle. So far, the motive behind the murder appears to be personal enmity, claimed an officer.

The officer added that the entry to the victim’s house appears to be friendly as empty dishes and a glass of water were found in the sitting room. On Monday morning, Vimla Tiwari, who runs an NGO against the practise of dowry and related exploitation against women, was found murdered by her friend’s grandson at her Ashok Nagar home after the child found Tiwari lying unconscious on the floor, her face upside down and a rope tied around her neck.

Based on this, Tiwari’s friend raised an alarm and informed the neighbours after which police were informed. Local police rushed to the spot and took the body to the nearby hospital where it is kept in mortuary.

An officer, privy to the investigation shared that the local police had in the recent past received complaints from some of the locals in the area about alleged suspicious activities taking place at Tiwari’s place. Investigation into the murder-cum-robbery case led cops to the fact that Tiwari did not hire any maid or servant for domestic chores at her house. This, the neighbours claimed was because the maids and servants allegedly refused to work at the house of the elderly woman because of suspicious activities taking place inside the house.

Police said that in 2011, Tiwari’s husband was allegedly murdered. A DTC employee, days after a missing complaint was lodged, body of Tiwari’s husband was found at an isolated forested area in Uttar Pradesh. Although her son and his family lives nearby, Tiwari lived alone.

One of the police officers shared that so far, they have not found anything crucial in the CCTV footage. Apart from the CCTV grabs, they are scanning the victims call detail records and questioning the son and other relatives of the victim.
