A cop suspended every third day in Lucknow; 510 suspended in 4 years

The Lucknow police has suspended at least one policeman every third day in the last four years period from 2009 to 2012. This was disclosed in an RTI information provided by the Lucknow police to social activist Nutun Thakur. As per information provided by SP (Protocol), Lucknow, 362 suspension orders were issued in a four-year period between January 2009 and December 2012 in which 510 policemen were suspended. On an average, one policeman was suspended every third day. This includes 12 September, 2009 and 21 July 2012 suspension orders, in which 39 and 10 policemen were suspended respectively through single orders.

However, subsequent action was followed only against 223 policemen. Out of these 223 suspended policemen, 36 were later found not-guilty and thus only 187 policemen (around one-third of those suspended) were finally punished in any manner. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Vinod Kumar Yadav was first suspended on March 21, 2009 to be reinstated on 9 April,  again suspended on May 19 and reinstated on July 2009.
