97 per cent rapists known to victims

Why blame strangers when their own might be a threat to women?

In 2012 till December, 635 rape cases were reported in Delhi, of which more than 600 were committed by people known to the victim.

Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said, ‘This year, 97 percent of the rapes have been committed by people known to the victim. Even in 2011, the ratio was the same.’

With the help of a Parliament questionnaire, a copy of which is with the Millennium Post, it has come to light that in 2011, the rape capital Delhi witnessed 580 rapes, of which 211 were committed by neighbours, and 402 people were arrested in this regard. Recently, a minor girl was raped by her neighbour at his residence in central Delhi.
