9-yr-old girl sexually assaulted, dies while undergoing treatment

In yet another incident of heinous crimes against minors in the national Capital, a nine-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped over a period of time by a neighbour in East Delhi’s Khajoori Khas area, suspectedly died of internal injuries at a hospital in Delhi on Tuesday evening, police said. 

The accused identified as Bihari, 35, had been booked under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children under Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was later arrested, said a police official.

In his complaint to the police, the victim’s father said his daughter was playing outside their residence with her cousin sister on July 8. The accused first gave a ten rupee note to the victim’s cousin and sent her to get an ice cream. In her absence, he allegedly took the victim to his house and raped her. He also allegedly threatened both the girls of dire consequences if they reveal anything to their 

family members.

When the victim’s cousin returned home without her, her parents started quizzing her about the girl’s whereabouts. She eventually broke down and revealed the whole incident. The victim’s father further wrote in his complaint that when he and his wife rushed to Bihari’s residence, they found Bihari in a compromising position with the minor.      

When the girl was brought back home, she narrated the entire ordeal to her mother. She also said 

the accused had allegedly sexually assaulted her in the past. After some time, she reportedly fainted.

The girl was first rushed to a private hospital from where she was referred to the GTB hospital after her condition started deteriorating. She reportedly succumbed to internal injuries on Tuesday evening, said a source. After the post-mortem, the girl’s body was handed over to her family members. Police said they were carrying out further investigations into the case.
