9 Pakistani prisoners freed by India at Wagah

Nine Pakistani prisoners, including five fishermen, were on Friday handed over by Indian authorities to Pakistani para-military officials at the Wagah Border. The Punjab Rangers recorded the statements of the prisoners?before handing them over to Edhi Welfare Foundation. Five of the prisoners are fishermen while the others are those who illegally crossed into the Indian side some time ago, officials said here. ‘None of the family members of the freed prisoners had come here to receive them. We have handed them over to Edhi where they could stay as long as they are not reunited with their families,’ official said. The Foreign Office on July 1 had handed over a list of 296 Indian prisoners in Pakistan to the High Commission of India in Islamabad. There are currently 47 common citizens, 237 fishermen and 12 youth offenders languishing in Pakistani jails, according to the list of Indian prisoners.
