9 dead, 21 injured in separate accidents on Yamuna E-Way

Despite tall claims of the district authorities and the concessioner to take measures, rising fatalities on the Yamuna Expressway continue unabated. In a series of high-speed crashes on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, nine persons including a septuagenarian couple died while at least 21 were injured. As per the report, as many as three accidents took place between Greater Noida and Mathura on the 165-km long high-speed corridor connecting Greater Noida to Agra. The victims were admitted to separate hospitals in Mathura and Greater Noida.  Six are stated to be critical.

Police said the first accident took place at around 2 am on the Greater Noida-Agra carriageway near the 88 milestone in Surir area when a speeding Swift Dzire rammed into a stationary truck. The three of a family, a septuagenarian couple and his son, were on their way to Delhi from Farrukhabad to a relative admitted at a private hospital in Delhi.

Satender, son of the elderly couple Rampal and Lilavati, was reportedly driving the car but fell asleep. As the speed of the car was at around 100 kmph, he lost control and hit a truck stationed at the carriageway from behind. The impact of the accident was so high that all the three occupants suffered multiple fractures and were taken to a private hospital where the couple died and the son’s condition is critical. 

The second accident took place at around 2.45 am at a stone’s throw distance, at about 89 milestone, on the opposite side of the carriageway when a heavy tanker rammed into a bus parked due to engine breakdown. As many as six persons died and 12 were injured. All the victims were admitted to a district hospital in Mathura. One of the deceased was identified as Mentu (22) of Kanpur and efforts are on to identify others. The occupants were going to Mainpuri from Meerut.

The third accident was reported at around 5.45 am from Mahavan area in the same district in which one died while nine others were reportedly injured. Police said that a bus was coming from Meerut and going towards Mathura temple when it skid off the road and injured the passengers.
