851 motorists challaned for flouting permit rules

In it’s second mega traffic enforcement drive, officers of the revenue department on Sunday inspected over 3,000 vehicles and issued notices to 851 for violating various permit conditions.

The drive was conducted at over 100 areas in the city to check commercial vehicles flouting various traffic norms such as permit route, overloading, unauthorised parking and wrong side driving.

“Auto-rickshaws, tempos, e-rickshaws, buses, Gramin Sewa vehicles, and RTVs were inspected. A total of 295 challans were issued,” said a senior revenue department officer.

“After giving them an opportunity for hearing, their permit can be suspended and even the vehicle can be impounded for a some days,” he added.

To augment its enforcement capability, the Transport Department had recently delegated powers of suspension of permits of commercial vehicles for violations under the Motor Vehicles Act to Magistrates of the Revenue Department.
