8-year-old boy dies after falling into dug-out hole

Investigating officers said that they received a PCR call at around 11 am on Wednesday that body of a child was found floating in the hole near DDA park in the Taj Colony area. A team of local police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. The boy was later identified to be Amit.

Investigating officers added that the parents were not aware where their son was. It was only
through police that they got to know that the child was found dead. Police further said that they have sent Amit’s body for post-mortem and are waiting for the final results to deduce what led to his death.

Family members meanwhile, said that Amit went missing from the house on Tuesday evening. They said that he had gone out to play in the park.

Sources said that owner of a petrol pump, located near the DDA park, had dug a crater in the park. It was due to his negligence that the minor boy fell into the hole. Police said that they have registered a case under Sections 304A (causing death due to negligence) and 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC at the Seelampur police station against the accused.

Police said that they have initiated investigation into the matter and are looking at which civic agency is responsible for the hole. Amit is survived by his father, Vijay Ram, who works as a cobbler in the area, mother and two younger sisters.
