8 hurt as live wire falls on tempo during Ganesha immersion

Eight persons were injured when a live wire got entangled to a Ganesha idol and fell on their tempo in North Delhi’s Timarpur area on Sunday afternoon, police said. 

The injured have been admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre and LNJP Hospital. The condition of a woman is said to be in a critical, police said.

The incident took place around <g data-gr-id="24"><g data-gr-id="25">3pm</g>,</g> when 15-20 residents of Jahangirpuri area were carrying out a procession on the Outer Ring Road. One person sitting in the tempo tried to remove the electric cable with a stick, but it fell on the vehicle. 

This triggered panic among people, who stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road and started running to safety. Many local residents started pelting stones at the vehicle. The road was blocked for two hours.

Personnel from the Timarpur police station and other nearby police stations rushed to the spot. They had to resort to <g data-gr-id="19">lathicharge</g> to control the situation. Over six vehicles were damaged in the commotion.
