8 dead, 10 injured as lorry rams into picnic party’s car

Eight persons died and ten others were injured in a road accident at National Highway 34 at Nadia district’s Nakashipara on Sunday evening. A head-on collision between the private car of a picnic party and a speeding Asansol-bound lorry claimed the life of eight persons there, police said. The persons who died there were in the private car and were returning back home from a picnic.

The local people heard the horrifying sound of collision between two vehicles followed by screams. The villagers rushed there to see those wrecked vehicles. They tried to bring those people out of the private car. But they had already died by then.

Police and the local people at last moved some people from the car. Those people were taken to Bethuadahari Rural Hospital.

The doctor declared that eight persons were brought dead there. But he advised the police to take the other ten people to Nadia 

District Hospital at Shaktinagar. The injured persons were admitted there in a critical condition.

A group of around 20-22 people went to a spot near Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary. They were returning from the picnic through NH 34 while the incident took place at Jugpur, Nakashipara on NH 34. Most of the people in the picnic party were residents of Nadia’s Dignagar village.

In another incident at South Bengal’s Howrah, a motorbike hit an elderly woman on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place at Howrah’s Nimtala area at around 1 pm. The woman was crossing the road when the bike hit her there. “She received injuries and was taken to a hospital. But the doctors declared her brought dead,” said a police officer. The local people captured the accused motorbike rider. They beat up the man and handed him to the police.

Meanwhile, in Birbhum’s Rampurhat, a stone loaded truck hit a bicycle on National Highway 60 at and claimed the life of a 35-year-old person there. The brother of that person, who was pillion rider of the bicycle, had a narrow escape from the accident.

The infuriated mob ransacked the truck and later, they set the truck on fire. They blocked the National Highway for some hours in morning which caused a huge traffic jam in that stretch.

In another incident, in Alipurduar, a bus collided with a lorry, caused injuries of 15 people there. The bus tuned on the road side, which caused the injuries to the passengers. The lorry fled the spot.
