7-yr-old boy mauled to death by street dogs in SE Delhi

The incident took place around 12.15 pm when the kid, Mamun Ansari, was playing near his residence in the JJ Colony of Jamia Nagar. While playing, they reached near a jungle at the backside of the JJ Cluster where these stray dogs lived. According to the victim’s friend, Ansari fell while running and started crying as he was attacked by the canines.

In the meantime, three dogs started barking at him and one of the dogs attacked him in the neck and within minutes the child was mauled to death.

The incident grabbed the attention of the locals who came to his rescue and rushed him to the nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. “The body has been preserved in the mortuary and the post-mortem is likely to be conducted early Wednesday,” a police official said. Soon after the incident, the locals carried out protests in the area.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Raza Khan, a resident of the colony said: “This is not the first time that the stray dogs in the area have attacked someone. These dogs have become very dangerous and are addicted to <g data-gr-id="39">flesh</g> which is why they attack passers-by quite often.”

Khan further added that the residents of the JJ Cluster and the nearby colonies used to dispose off wastes into the nearby jungle which sometimes included meat. The stray dogs are used to having that and this is the reason why they have turned so violent. It has been learnt that Ansari used to live with his family. His father, Muhammad is a rickshaw puller and has five children including Ansari.

“Despite complaints to the municipal bodies no action has been taken,” Khan added. MLA Amanatullah Khan remained unavailable for comments.

Last year, a two-month-old baby girl was mauled to death by a street dog in Old Delhi’s Nabi Karim area.
