66 injured in Assam quake, many buildings develop cracks

At least 66 persons were injured in Assam after a strong 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit the northeastern region early this morning with scores of buildings developing cracks across the state. “In Cachar district, 40 persons were injured. Out of them, 15 are still being treated for major injuries and rest were all discharged from hospital. They are all out of danger,” Assam Commissioner and Secretary (Disaster Management) Pramod Kumar Tiwari said. In most of the cases, either some object fell on people or they were injured while rushing out of home, he said. Kamrup Metropolitan district authority said 26 persons were injured and were treated, of which four were still undergoing treatment.
