62-yr-old neighbour arrested for repeatedly raping toddler

A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was alleged to be repeatedly sexually assaulted by her 62-year-old neighbour at his place in South-east Delhi’s Amar Colony area. 

Police said that they arrested the man identified as Bhagwan on late Wednesday night and on Thursday, he was sent to judicial custody.

Sources said that the incident came to light on Wednesday morning when the girl informed her mother of unbearable pain in her private parts. When the minor girl was taken to a nearby hospital, medical examination confirmed rape.

According to sources, after the medical examination, the minor girl’s mother reported the matter to the local police and Prasad was arrested. Sources added that Prasad, a native of Bihar, came down to Delhi for obtaining treatment for some medical problem and was living with his son and his daughter-in-law.

According to the police, the three-and-a-half year old girl’s father works at a mass communication institute. Both the victim’s family and the accused live in the same building as tenants.
A senior police official said that the minor girl told her mother that the “uncle” on the second floor called her to his house and sexually abused her.

“The girl’s mother then informed her husband and the couple approached the police. A medical examination confirmed that the minor girl was raped multiple times.

Police registered a case under IPC Section 376 and sections of POCSO 
Act at the Amar Colony police station.

Sources said that the girl, in her statement, told cops that Prasad used to lure her to his house by offering her sweets and chips and used to sexually abuse her.

Sources further said that the minor girl had been sent for counselling. 

The police, meanwhile, had questioned the accused to know when had he been raping the minor girl. 
On the other hand, the girl informed her parents that this has been happening for more than a week while her parents were away at work, the accused used to lure her and rape her.
