60-yr-old retired railway official commits suicide

A 60-year-old retired railway official allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the Rail Bhawan in the high security zone of Lutyen’s Delhi on Friday morning. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Malleshwar Chandra. Senior police officers said that they have not recovered any suicide note from Chandra’s possession.

According to the senior police officials of the New Delhi district, Chandra, a retired Railway employee came to meet his ex-colleagues at the Rail Bhavan. The incident was reported at around 10 am. Police said that Chandra was spotted sitting in the balcony of the fifth floor. The next moment, it was discovered that he had jumped. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. Sources said that Chandra retired in February this year. He was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression for a long time. According to the police, Chandra’s family members told them that he was suffering from depression since 2006 and certain “family problems” were also playing on his mind. Investigation under Section 174 of CrPC of Inquest Proceedings has been initiated into the matter.
