6-yr-old boy dies after grandfather accidentally opens fire at him

A six-year-old boy was killed after his grandfather accidentally shot at him with his service revolver while celebrating Vishwakarma puja in South-west Delhi’s Bindapur area.

The accident took place at around 7.30 pm after Ram Kumar (48) had performed Vishwakarma puja and opened fire in front of his shop.

“People were bursting crackers and there was a large crowd outside the shop. In the midst of all, Kumar was firing bullets with a revolver in his hand. His six-year-old grandchild — Shivam, went towards him to see the firing from a close range,” a police official said.

After a few minutes, Shivam starting forcing his grandfather to handover the gun to him. Kumar dropped his raised hand down thinking that there is no bullet left. Accidentally, Kumar’s finger fell on the trigger and a bullet hit Shivam’s chest, police said.

He was immediately taken to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. A case under Section 304A of the IPC (Causing death by negligence) has been registered and Kumar has been arrested.
