6 killed, 7 injured in five separate road accidents

Six persons including a woman were killed and seven injured in five separate road accidents in different parts of the state including two in Kolkata. In a road accident at Barasat in North 24-Parganas, two youth were killed and one injured when the motorbike on which they were travelling collided head on with a truck that was approaching from the opposite direction.

The victims were resident of Duttapukur and the incident took place when all three of them were heading towards Barasat on one motorbike. Kayem Ali was riding the bike while Kalam Azad and Aminul Islam were riding on the pillion.

The youth failed to control the speeding bike when the truck, which was also at its top speed, suddenly approached from the opposite direction.

The truck had managed to flee when the police reached the spot. They took all three of them to BN Bose Hospital where Kayem and Kalam were declared brought dead and Aminul is fighting for his life.

A 38-year-old man Mujiber Sheikh was killed and his relatives including Sohail Sheikh and Rohin Sheikh were injured when the van-rickshaw in which they were returning home was hit by a truck on National Highway 34 at Beldanga in Murshidabad. Sohail and Rohin were admitted at Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital while another injured person was undergoing treatment in a local hospital.

The local people rushed to the spot and put up a road block protesting against the accident. They also caught the vehicle and handed it over to the police.

At Dharampur near Gaighata in North 24-Parganas, a 40-year-old woman Jharna Biswas was killed while her husband Swapan Biswas and eight-year-old son were injured after a private bus hit the motorbike on which they were travelling. The injured were admitted to Habra Hospital.

Samiran Ghosh, who witnessed the incident, said the private was at a high speed and suddenly it hit the motorbike. All three of them fell on the road and the rear wheels of the bus smashed the woman. They were taken to hospital where Jharna was declared brought dead. Her husband and son were admitted with severe injuries.

In Kolkata, a 27-year-old youth Nitin Kumar was killed and two of his friends were injured when their bike hit a lamp-post on Casuriana Avenue. They were returning after attending a marriage party early Wednesday morning. All three were taken to SSKM Hospital where Kumar was declared brought dead. Two others Abhirup and Ashiraj were admitted in a private hospital.

A middle aged man was injured when a bus on route 78/1 hit a pedestrian near Hind Cinema. The bus had lost control and hit the man. The injured person was taken to Calcutta medical College and Hospital. Local people damaged the bus. The driver and the helpers managed to flee.
