58-year-old woman dies after roof collapse in Walled City

A day after a three-year-old boy was killed in roof collapse in <g data-gr-id="18">Shahdra’s</g> <g data-gr-id="19">Mandoli</g> village, another incident was reported on Tuesday in which a 58-year-old woman was killed when the roof of her residence collapsed in Walled City area. It was the fourth such incident in last one month. 

The incident has revealed the insensitivity of the Municipal Corporations and their failure to check vulnerable structures in the city. The incident was reported at around 8 am from Ved Wara locality in the Walled City. 

The victim, identified as Asha Sharma, was stuck in the debris, a police official said. No other person was injured in the incident. Asha was reported to be alone at home when the roof of the old house collapsed, the official said. She was pulled out after a rescue operation conducted by a joint team of Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Services and a PCR unit of the Delhi Police, he said. The injured woman was rushed to LNJP Hospital, where she was declared brought dead, the official added.

In Monday’s incident, a three-year-old boy was killed and four others were injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Shahdara area. The incident had taken place at around 6.20 pm trapping five persons including the child, identified as Prince, under its debris. In another incident in Outer Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area, three persons were hurt when the roof of an old house collapsed.
