50-year-old woman killed, house ransacked; three arrested

The accused persons have been identified as Bunty (32), Sunty (21) and the domestic help Sadik (20). On Saturday, police learnt that a woman had committed suicide and when the team reached the spot, Kusum Gupta (55) was found dead on a sofa with blood oozing out of her right ear and her tongue wagging out of her mouth.

During the investigation, it was learnt that Gupta was living with her son Piyush at her address and was running a ration shop. While interrogating Sadik, he disclosed that he had come to Delhi just about a month ago to his relative Bunty who was already working at the ration shop for 12-13 years before and was well known to Gupta. He further disclosed that Bunty and his associate Sunty planned to rob and murder her as she was living alone these days and hence was an easy target for them.

Also, she was supposedly having a lot of cash and jewellery at her house. “After killing the lady, the accused persons robbed the earrings and nose pin, which Gupta was wearing. After that, they ransacked the house of cash and jewellery articles and ran away,” police said quoting Sadik’s confessional statement.

Later, at the instance of accused Sadik, the other two co-accused Bunty and Sunty were arrested from Model Town area and all the robbed cash amounting to Rs 37,700 and jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh were recovered from their possession. The instruments used to break the lockers of the almirahs were also recovered from their possession. The investigation has also revealed that no servant verification was done for the employees, police said.
