50 students taken ill after taking de-worming tablets

Around 50 students from Basanti block in South 24-Parganas were admitted to different hospitals after they were administered vaccine as a part of its de-worming campaign among school children.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) from South 24-Parganas had sent a special team to the spots to inquire into the incident. The team after examining the situation has submitted to a report to the CMOH. 

In the report the members of the team mentioned that situation was under control now. 

Few students fell ill after taking the vaccination at the schools and some of them were admitted to the hospitals. 

Many students who took the medicine had become panicky and visited the hospital. A majority of the students who were panic stricken were later released from the hospital.

According to a health department official more than a hundred students visited various hospitals after they felt unusual after being administered the vaccine. The majority of these students were later released from the hospital.

The State Health department had organised a vaccination programme in various schools in South 24-Parganas on Wednesday. When the programme was going on many students fell ill and were taken to Basanti Hospital. 

Some students were however shifted to Canning hospital after their condition deteriorated.

The State Health department has started a probe into the incident. The department is checking whether the drug administered had expired.
