5 youths detained near jute mill in North 24-Parganas

Five youths, who claimed to be students of Jadavpur University, were detained in front of the Hukumchand Jute Mill in Naihati area of North 24 Parganas district on Sunday.

Commisioner of Police, Barrackpore Commisionerate, Niraj Kumar Singh said the youths were seen roaming in the jute mill area for some time and didnot give satisfactory reply when asked by the police and local people.

The youths claimed to be students from JU but it was being verified, he said.

The detentions followed the clash between police and workers of Hukumchand Jute Mill some days back.

Local Trinamool Congress sources said the youths' movement raised suspicion of having links with certain leftist right groups.
