5 units of Farakka power plant shuts down

The power generation at the NTPC power plant at Farakka unit was badly hit as the water level in the feeder canal declined to low level.

On Friday night 5 units out of total 6 units closed down its operations as the water level went down up to 15 meter in the feeder canal. According to NTPC officials one unit which has been operating is producing around 400 MW of power where as all the 6 units can produce 2100 MW in normal days. As a result of this there is a possibility of power crisis not only in West Bengal but also in adjoining districts like Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Sikkim. NTPC Farakka also supplies power to these states also.
