5 killed, 24 injured in Jharkhand Maoist attack

Five members of a polling party have been killed in a Maoist attack in Dumka district here. Maoists struck on Thursday blowing up a bus carrying election personnel returning with EVMs after completion of the polling. More than 24 others are reported injured in the attack. The polling party was attacked at Asna village.  According to reports, injured are lying in the forest but there is no way relief could be provided to them because of the darkness.

This is a dense forest area making it difficult for the relief party to reach the spot. Since it is dark, even the police team has no other option but to wait till the dawn. It is feared that Maoists have laid land mines and efforts to enter the spot could turn out to be a suicide mission. Areas of Dumka and Dhanbad in Jharkhand have suffered from Maoist attacks and 45,000 personnel have been deployed for poll security here.
