45-year-old TMC leader shot dead at Kaliachak

A 45-year-old Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead from a point blank range after being dragged out of his house at Kaliachak late on Wednesday night.

Police said the victim identified as Sadek Seikh was a resident of Ghottapara village under Jodhpur gram panchayat. He used to run several businesses.

At around 7 pm on Wednesday, few miscreants raided Seikh’s house. They asked the victim’s family members to bring him out. When the family members refused, the miscreants went inside the house and dragged him out.

The situation turned worse when Seikh tried to escape after pushing them back. The accused caught Seikh and shot him from a close range.

The miscreants fled the scene after committing the crime. Hearing Seikh’s cry, his family members came out and found him lying in a pool of blood.

The miscreants also hurled bombs at Seikh’s neighbours who tried to come out of their houses to rescue him.

After getting information, police rushed to the spot and took Seikh to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The incident led to deterioration of law and order situation in the area. A large contingent of police was posted there. Senior police officers also went to the spot and spoke to the victim’s family members to know whether they had identified the accused.

Police initiated a probe into the incident, but they are yet to arrest anyone in this connection.

Senior Trinamool Congress leaders of the district said the police had initiated a probe and they were hopeful that the police will arrest the accused soon.

It may be mentioned that a few weeks ago another worker of the party was killed and it had also led to trouble in the village.
