41-year-old man charred to death after his car hits another

A 41-year-old man was charred to death in his car in north Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on late Saturday evening after his car rammed into another vehicle. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Goel who was a resident of Sector-18, Rohini. Goel owned a car denting-painting shop in Mukundpur. At the time of the incident, at around 9.30 pm he was returning home but in the mid-way, his car began emitting smoke as a result he could not see properly and rammed his car into another. The accident took place in Bhalswa Dairy region of outer Delhi.

Police said Goel’s car first rammed into an Alto car ahead of it. The Alto lost a wheel, but there was no further serious damage to that vehicle or to its occupant. The Swift car too lost its front right wheel before turning turtle. “Bystanders noticed smoke emanating from the car’s engine and alerted its driver. But the accident jammed the central lock of the car due to which the victim could not escape,” a police officer said.

According to the eye-witnesses, after the head-on-collision with Maruti Alto, Goel’s car–Swift Dzire caught fire. The eye-witnesses also told police that he got stuck inside the car.
