4% monthly global domain registrations from India

With a rapidly growing number of Internet users and a surge in e-commerce transactions, the average monthly domain name registrations in the country has more than doubled to 4 per cent of all global registrations, according to industry estimates. This, however, is way behind the additions in China, which accounts for 20-22% of monthly new domain name registrations globally. “Close to 4% of all global registrations now happen from India,” web-hosting company BigRock India’s Shashank Mehrotra said. “Over the past few months, there has been a rapid increase in domain name registrations, particularly from the country with the monthly additions rising to 2 per cent from an average of 1.5 per cent of the global registrations,” Mehrotra added. There is also a huge rise in the numbers of Internet users in the country, thanks to the surge in online shopping, he said. On the huge numbers in China, which is the largest online market, he said China has also doubled its rate of domain name additions. BigRock hosts websites for Warner Brothers, Adidas, HP Gas, and Kotak Securities, among others and competes with larger players like GoDaddy, HostGator.
