4 held for robbing garment unit employees of Rs 65L

Four persons have been arrested in connection with a Rs 65-lakh robbery from employees of a garment trader in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area last month, police said on Wednesday.

Two of the accused were arrested from Delhi, while the other two were nabbed from Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

On September 26, four motorbike-borne persons had robbed Rs 65 lakh from Shyam Babu and Arun Kumar Jha, employees of Lion Textiles, while they were going to deposit the cash at the Gandhi Nagar branch of Bank of Baroda at gunpoint, said Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner of police (Crime).

The police received a tip-off that the four men,  who suddenly robbed the duo, were living a lavish life and spending extravagantly.

It was learnt that two of the accused would be coming to the Shastri Park Metro Station, the officer said.

“A trap was laid near the Metro station and two, identified as Imran (21) and Md Ali (23), were apprehended. A motorcycle that Imran had bought with the robbed money was also seized,” the officer said.

The police recovered Rs 2 lakh from Imran and Rs 3.78 lakh from Md.

They also disclosed the name of their accomplices – Mehraj and Wasim – to the police, he added.

A raid was conducted at Rataul in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district and Mehraj and Wasim, both aged 23 years, were apprehended and Rs 16.20 lakh was recovered from their possession, the police said.
