‘4 Cong leaders were in touch with Naxals’

Fresh revelations by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) on Monday that the Naxals who attacked the Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh killing 28 people were in touch with at least four local Congress leaders has added fuel to the Congress-BJP blame game.

Though Congress has denied such reports, NIA claimed that while two Congress leaders were present at the convoy, two other leaders were believed to have provided ‘running commentary’ to the ultras as soon as party convoy left from Darbha block. ‘We are investigating the call records which were made through the Jagdalpur cellphone tower,’ the NIA officials said.

The NIA disclosure has come a day after the BJP demanded a narco test on Congress MLA Kawasi Lakhma who was spared by the insurgents while other senior leaders were killed. The BJP alleged that Lakhma had diverted the route of the convoy. ‘Lakhma can give exact information about the conspiracy involved in the Naxal attack. The legislator has admitted that he had a conversation with Naxals before they released him during the attack,’ the BJP spokesperson Ajay Chandrakar said on Sunday.

He said Lakhma be subjected to the truth serum test’. NIA sources said they are investigating an insider’s role and they would submit a detailed report to the MHA in the days to come.
