3,700 DTC buses to come under CCTV lens

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has decided to install CCTV cameras in over 3,700 low-floor DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) buses, including 1,275 air-conditioned ones, as part of measures to bolster women’s security.

After installing the CCTVs in DTC buses, the government will start installing CCTV cameras in cluster buses operated by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).

As per the plan, three CCTV cameras will be installed in each bus so that the entire vehicle is covered and a close watch kept on every passenger.

DTC officials said that 200 buses have been fitted with such devices in the first phase.

“To ensure safety of women in DTC’s buses, government has decided to install CCTV cameras in non-AC and AC low-floor buses. We will start the process of installing CCTV cameras in two months,” Rai said.

The Transport Minister said that project would prove useful for women passengers travelling in corporation buses, especially late at night.

Officials said that government will monitor the recording of CCTV cameras for which control rooms will be set up by DTC.
