35-year-old woman found dead in canal

A 35-year-old woman was found dead in a canal neat Outer Delhi’s Narela area, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Lakshmi, used to live in a JJ cluster in the vicinity. So far police have maintained that it appears to be a case of suicide but are waiting for the post-mortem report before final conclusions.

The incident took place on Tuesday when an eyewitness, Mohammad, spotted the woman’s body near a canal and informed the police. “A team was deputed to the spot. Her body was shifted to the local hospital and her family was informed about the incident,” said a senior police official.

Her husband was traced and identified as Manu, who works as a labourer. The couple also has a one-year-old son. So far the police have maintained that her death may have been the result of a marital discord.

“When we questioned the husband, we found that they had been fighting over some issues over the past few days. But we are also going to question the deceased’s relatives in this regard,” the officer added.
