30-year-old security guard found hanging at Jalpaiguri tea garden

Mystery shrouds the death of a 30-year-old security guard of a tea garden whose body was found hanging from a tree at Jotiakhali area in Jalpaiguri on Tuesday morning.

The victim Madan Chakraborty’s family members alleged that he was strangulated somewhere and later hung from a tree to make people believe that he had committed suicide.

Chakraborty was security guard of Kranti tea garden and he had been working there for the past few years.

The owner of the tea garden had bought another tea garden at Jotiakhali. Chakraborty often used to visit Jotiakhali tea garden.

Police came to know that on Monday he had left home in the evening to visit the house of one of his relatives. His family members told the police that he went to the relative’s house straight from home. From there he had plans to go to Jotiakhali.

As per the plan, he went to the Jotiakhali and handed contacted his family members over phone to tell that he may be late. But his mobile phone was in switched off mode since last night.

His family members searched all possible places, but couldn’t find him out.

They had informed the matter to the police last night. Police too conducted search at various places.

On Tuesday morning, some local people saw the body hanging from the tree and informed the police. Policemen rushed to the spot and sent the body for an autopsy.

A police officer said there was a mark on his neck.

“But it is not possible to say that whether it was a case of homicide or suicide until we get the post-mortem report. Thus the autopsy report is very important for this particular incident.”

Statement of some people has been taken to ascertain whether the victim had rivalry with anyone and what had gone wrong last night.

Police are also probing whether he had restricted anyone from entering the tea garden last night.
