30-year-old robbed, beaten up by drunk men

In an apparent case of road rage, a 30-year-old man was allegedly robbed of and beaten up by a few drunk men near a police station in east Delhi.

The incident took place on October 10 when the victim, Rupesh Gaur, was returning home after attending a function at Hallmark Banquet

Hall in Karkardooma around 10.30 pm.

A car brushed past and overtook Rupesh’s near Hargobind Enclave in East Delhi, police said. One of the occupants in the car allegedly abused Rupesh but he moved ahead without paying heed.

When Rupesh reached near the Anand Vihar police station, the car hit his vehicle a few more times. “When Rupesh stepped out to see the damage caused to his car, he found occupants of the other car consuming alcohol,” police said.

In his complaint, Rupesh has alleged he was beaten up with revolver butts and the men also snatched his gold chain and Rs 8,600 that he was carrying. Rupesh said they were asking his younger brother, Om Shanker Gaur, to step out of the car but he remained seated inside.

The accused allegedly fled after breaking Rupesh’s mobile phone so that he was not able to contact the police, said a senior police officer. “A case under Sections 279, 394, 397, 427 and 34 of IPC has been registered," said the officer. The police are trying to nab the occupants of the car.
