3 suffocate to death in Hauz Khas, one critical

Three men were reportedly suffocated to death at a businessman’s house while the condition of their fourth accomplice is stated to be critical, police said on Sunday.

All four of them were sleeping in the locked servant quarter of the house with a burning brazier in
south Delhi’s Hauz Khas area on Sunday morning.

The Delhi police have ruled out foul play in the incident.

According to police, all the four victims had partied on Saturday night and gone to sleep after lighting the brazier to keep them warm. The brazier with burning coal must have increased the carbon monoxide inside the locked room which must have resulted in their death.

The deceased have been identified as Rajesh (cook), Santosh (driver) and Munna (gardner). Uday, who is battling for his life at hospital was a friend of one of the deceased and  stayed over at the room after the party.

All the victims were employed by one Sudhir Oberoi who owns optical showrooms in Green Park and Connaught Place. He lives with his family in Hauz Khas Enclave Colony and had given a servant quarter to the deceased persons.

On Sunday morning, at around 11.30 am, a woman domestic help went to their room to wake them up.

After repeated knocks when the door was not opened, she entered in and found all of them in an unconscious state. She informed Oberoi about the incident who immediately made a call to the police control room and rushed them to the nearby Max Hospital.

“Rajesh, Santosh and Munna were declared brought dead by the doctors. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Uday is admitted into the intensive care unit (ICU),” the police official said.
In the initial probe, Delhi police ruled out any foul play in the case and the cause of death is being cited as suffocation. “We are waiting for the autopsy reports to know the exact cause of their deaths,” the official added.
